Today the Government announced new restrictions for the Christmas period. England’s current lockdown is due to end on Wednesday 2nd December. After that, different regions will be placed into one of three different ‘tiers’ of Christmas Covid-19 restrictions: tier one (medium), tier two (high), and tier three (very high). Each tier will have various levels of restrictions imposed upon it. Here Nomenial will outline a little bit about each tier so that you understand what precautions to take during this holiday period…

Tier One Covid-19 restrictions: (medium)

This is the lowest level of restriction. Tier one parts of the country will have the lowest level of restriction.

Both indoor and outdoor gatherings will be limited to six people.

Restaurants and pubs will close at 11 pm, with last orders being taken at 10 pm

Spectator sports may take place on the condition that they operate at 50% audience capacity, or 4,000 spectators – whichever is smaller.

Tier Two Covid-19 restrictions (high):

It is prohibited to socialise with other households indoors in tier two.

However, it is permitted to meet in a group of up to six outdoors, in a public place such as a park or garden.

Certain establishments such as shops, gyms, and personal care services will be permitted to open (if clear of Covid-19)

Restaurants, pubs, and bars may only reopen if they serve substantial meals. Alcohol can be served with the said meal

Spectator sports can take place under the condition that they operate at 50% audience capacity, or 2,000 spectators – whichever is smaller).

Weddings, collective worship, and outdoor sports can resume (under restrictions)

Non-essential foreign travel is permitted, but subject to quarantine rules.

Tier Thee Covid-19 restrictions (very high):

The highest level of restriction.

It is prohibited to mix with other households indoors, and it is also prohibited to mix in private gardens and pub gardens.

You can meet in a group of up to six in public outdoor spaces such as beaches or parks.

Hospitality based establishments such as restaurants, bars, pubs and clubs must close – although they will be allowed to operate takeaway and home delivery services.

Spectator sports will be prohibited.

Indoor entertainment venues such as cinemas must close

People are strongly advised not to travel to and from tier 3 areas.

There are exceptions for support bubbles and childcare.
